How to Set Healthy Boundaries and Why You Need Them
Velvet Muse · Oct 20, 2026
Many of us were raised to be accommodating rather than assertive. Because of this, setting a boundary can feel like an act of cruelty, but it is actually a vital form of self-respect.
A boundary is not a wall to shut others out; it is a structure that keeps you intact. Without boundaries, you are likely to become depleted, which prevents you from showing up as your best self for the people you love.
Practice setting clear boundaries. You do not need to over-explain a 'no.' Start small, and recognize that being firm is not the same as being unkind. Boundaries protect your energy and allow you to live a life that is truly your own.
